Julia has written dozens of plays. Many of these were written for an annual course, currently at the University of Oregon, which culminates in the production of a bilingual play written and directed by Julia. These pieces are formatted so that most of the action is in Russian, but there is a kind of live synopsis that explains what is happening to English speakers; the idea is that both Russian and English speakers understand everything. Over the years, this has ranged from American characters' discussions in Russian-themed plays to creating a "meta" level to the piece, like English directors directing actors playing the piece.
